Commonly associated with a certain famous Peruvian bear, Paddington boasts an amazing location in Central West London with plenty of excellent restaurants, shops and amenities, and fantastic transport links across the city and beyond. Despite all these attractions it’s managed to remain relatively under the radar for years, as buyers are often distracted by the shiny, chic lights of Marylebone allowing Paddington residents to enjoy this brilliant area in peace.

Word is getting out though, as recent developments in housing and the Paddington Waterside project mean that W2’s star is on the rise with house hunters searching for homes near the flood of cool cafes, wine bars and boutiques suddenly taking over this canal side area.

With plenty to keep you entertained at home and regular trains all over the South West and to Heathrow from Paddington Station for when you want some fun further afield, it’s undoubtedly one of the best places to be in London this summer.

The central location of Paddington means residents are just a stones throw from some of London’s best attractions, but why not explore the sights even closer to home this summer with lesser-known attractions such as the Subway Gallery and the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum?

Subway Gallery

With all of the beautiful historic buildings in London which house world-renowned galleries and museums, a gallery in a W2 pedestrian subway can sound a bit dubious. However, you’d be foolish to dismiss it so quickly – housed in the subway underneath the Edgware Road / Harrow Road crossing, this 1960’s space showcases unique art in rotating exhibitions and is certainly worth taking a detour for!

Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum

Scottish pharmacologist Alexander Fleming famously discovered Penicillin in 1928, a discovery which has had a huge impact on modern medicine ever since. If you’re interested in learning more about the life and work of Alexander Fleming, why not take a visit to his reconstructed laboratory at St Mary’s Hospital? It’s been furnished exactly as it would have been in the late 1920s and is filled with fascinating equipment as well as an exhibition on the story of Fleming.

London Central Mosque

Learn something new at the London Central Mosque this summer, the iconic building in Regent’s Park with the golden dome and tower rising above the London skyline. As well as a place of worship, the mosque has a specialist bookshop, a library and an events hall, where they hold classes in learning Arabic language which are open to all faiths.
