On 24th November Make-A-Wish Foundaton held their annual UK Winter Ball at The Dorchester on London’s Park Lane which Residential Land was very proud to attend and support.
This year’s ball raised £495,000 with Residential Land granting wishes of two children, Brody, aged four who has MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental condition which means he has limited communication skills and mobility. He has suffered from numerous chest infections, as well as swine flu, leading to ten days in intensive care over the Christmas period. He loves to play but is under constant supervision, so requires somewhere safe and appropriate. He wished for a sensory bedroom. Zaara, aged seven has an inoperable brain tumour. Having previously been taking 50 tablets a day, Zaara’s medication has now finished. Zaara is a fan of all Disney characters and would love to visit the Disney Princesses and meet the characters from Toy Story. Also a big fan of rollercoasters and fairground rides, she would love the chance to go on some with her two sisters and her brother. She wished to go to Florida. Helping to make their wishes come true is a privilege and honour.
Since 1986, Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted wishes to over 8,000 children fighting life-threatening diseases and this key fund-raising event has raised over £6 million.
The ball was attended by celebrities including cricketer Alex Stewart, singer Hannah Spearritt and actors Ben Barnes, Andrew-Lee Potts and Bradley Walsh. Babette Langford and The Young Set, followed by the cast of the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert provided entertainment and Jeffrey Archer was the host of the fundraising auction. Auction prizes included the chance to not only attend but perform in the hit show Jersey Boys, to be at an exclusive pre-release screening of the new James Bond movie, a selection of luxury holidays including trips to the US, Brunei, Grenada, Cyprus and Portugal; and a wide selection of fully authenticated memorabilia. Residential Land were successful in the winning bid for an Andy Warhol painting.
