We are pleased to announce that Palace Wharf, our latest riverside development in Fulham, is finished. Mixing the old with the new and industrial chic exteriors with state of the art interiors, it clearly stands apart from the more generic developments that have crept up along the river.

Industrial chic

Reflective of the delicate balance between the property’s rich past and the desire for luxury living is the installation of double-glazed Crittal windows – looking exactly like the original steel-framed windows while keeping out the noise and cold far more efficiently.

The three original sections of Palace Wharf, namely blocks A, B and C, were built in 1907 and were used for importing marble. It’s river frontage was originally used for offloading the imported marble from boats making deliveries along the river.

While the frontage remains, we have opened up an archway beneath it to allow for an uninterrupted riverside footpath that stretches all the way from Craven Cottage to Hammersmith Bridge.

In the old building there are 16 one, two and three bedroom flats to rent as well as five newly built, architecturally sympathetic townhouses for sale.

Swimming in natural light

The townhouses have bi-fold doors in both the living rooms and bedrooms which step out onto river-facing balconies that provide bucolic views of the London Wetland Centre, the terracotta grandeur of the Harrods Furniture Depository and the Victorian stateliness of Hammersmith Suspension Bridge in all its green glory.

As Residential Land’s head of interiors, Tessa Ferguson, points out: “It’s not a bad place to eat your breakfast!”

In all the properties there is an abundance of natural light which is one of the reasons that head of lettings, Stuart Birke, finds Palace Wharf so appealing. He says, “The light streams through the whole development for much of the day and as the apartments have the benefit of oversized windows they are awash with light.”

Location, location, location

For senior development manager, Oliver Dunthorne, the location is what makes Palace Wharf so attractive. He says, “Palace Wharf manages to be the best of both worlds. It is a unique London location with beautiful views across the Thames to a nature reserve while being in the heart of a vibrant city.”

He continues, “The buildings utilise the best elements of the historic setting, harking back to the industrial past while utilising the latest technology – all flats have integrated Crestron home automation – to make sure that the flats are at the forefront of modern metropolitan living. The quiet riverside location in the heart of a lovely family area is just a short walk away from the bustling Fulham and King’s Road, as well as the cultural hotspots of Hammersmith’s Apollo and Lyric theatres.”

All mod cons

As is the way with Residential Land, there has been a great attention to detail. Tessa says, “What sets us apart is in the finish. If you look carefully no shortcuts have been taken, the skirting, the architrave, the coving, the lighting, it’s all very nicely finished. We ensure both our materials and workmanship are of the highest quality.”

In addition, all flats have been fitted out with the latest mod cons. Miele wine coolers and built-in bean to cup coffee machines come as standard. With our in-house audio visual consultants, TV, music and intercom all work seamlessly and unobtrusively. Air con is also discreetly placed in the walls, with both cool and warm air. The showers have been fitted with Hansgrohe shower heads, the kind you would expect to find in a luxury hotel.

Architectural footprint

Residential Land’s development director, Michael Hughes, is especially pleased with how well the townhouses harmonise with the original structure.

He says, “As a new build there is quite an industrial look to them: they are very cubist in the way they address the river frontage which is quite unusual down here. The Barratt’s site up towards Hammersmith has a much more recognisable large-scale residential look to it. What we’ve delivered here is something that will stand out, that will provoke comment and will make people think about architecture.”

He continues, “The townhouses are clad in copper which will mean there will be an ever-changing vista as the copper starts to green, so I’m quite excited to see how they will look in a few years’ time. Ultimately, it is something we can genuinely be proud of – we’ve delivered something with an architectural footprint.”
