To the east of Hamlet Gardens you have Hammersmith, to the west you have Chiswick. While we’ve covered off all the ace places to go in the former we thought it time to bring you seven gems from the latter. A collection of indie coffee shops, old-fashioned ice cream parlours and bargain bookstores are just a few of the hidden gems that can be found in W4.

1. Brew

The latest addition to the Brew restaurant group can be found right in the heart of Chiswick. Almost everything on the menu includes homemade goodies: whether you’re in the mood for some treacle-cured bacon, chorizo, Brew-grown herbs or some freshly baked delights, this is the perfect place to spend a morning in Chiswick.

2. Bookcase

If you’re in the mood to embrace your inner bookworm, head over to Chiswick’s most prized bookstore. Independently selling bargain reads since 1993, Bookcase are known best for their friendly staff and ever-changing stock. It’s no secret that people rarely leave empty handed.

3. Chief Coffee

If you’re in need of a caffeine fix, wander towards Turnham Green Terrace and you’ll be moments away from the Chief Coffee. Located on the site of a Victorian bottling factory, the large window overlooks the terrace and refreshing interiors make for a light, welcoming space to enjoy delicious coffee. If the coffee rush has given you a burst of energy, Chief have the perfect solution…a hand-painted sign leads you down to their very own Pinball Lounge below. Offering pinball machines from the late 90’s to present day, this is the perfect escape for all ages and no purchase is required to play!

4. Foubert’s

For non-coffee drinkers, but those with a sweet tooth, Foubert’s is just around the corner from Chief Coffee. This is a step back in time to the old-fashioned ice cream parlours. With a mouth watering selection of flavours, you’ll be wanting a scoop of them all!

5. Picnic on Turnham Green

Spending the day in Chiswick doesn’t have to mean splashing the cash. When the sun is shining, Turnham Green is the perfect picnic location. You’ll find a Waitrose just across the road to pick out scrumptious nibbles for an afternoon spent in relaxing and eating!

6. St Nicholas Church

Spend the afternoon marvelling at the stained glass windows of St Nicholas Church, just off Church Street. This site has been a Christian place of worship dating back at least to the time of Edward the Confessor. Don’t miss their flower and music festival, St Nick’s in Bloom, on 18th-20th May 2018.

7. The City Barge

If there’s one place in Chiswick worth getting a drink at, it’s The City Barge. This riverside drinking destination is an historic 14th century public house found on the Thames riverbank and nestled in the calming area of the Strand-on-the-Green. With endless outside seating on both sides of the building you can choose between the river view or the secluded terrace surrounded by their herb garden.
