London is, of course, famous for its pubs, which naturally makes it the perfect place for beer gardens – and settling down with a cold pint or a chilled glass of wine on a hot day.

This week we’ll be looking at the most wonderful beer gardens in West London, but don’t worry – there are still plenty to choose from! And going west means quaint, quiet riverside relaxation, largely hidden away from the crowds you’ll find in the very centre of the city.

So from bankside beers to cosy enclosures, here’s our selection of five of the very best pub gardens that West London has to offer.

The Crabtree

Rainville Rd, Hammersmith, W6 9HA
The recently refurbished Crabtree pub is right next door to our Palace Wharf property, not to mention right next door to the Thames. Our residents needn’t worry though – this is a beautiful yet low-key spot for relaxing refreshment, not a rowdy all-night drinking establishment. Faultlessly considerate neighbours, they also offer an a la carte menu that’s a cut above the usual pub grub.

Blue Anchor

13 Lower Mall, Hammersmith, W6 9DJ
Not so much a beer garden as a pub that backs directly onto the Thames, the blue-painted picnic tables outside The Blue Anchor provide the perfect spot to gaze into the water as you enjoy a much-needed pint, and watch admiringly as rowing teams skim briskly past, working up a sweat. This stretch of the Thames walkway could also double up as a very relaxed pub crawl that takes you from the next-door-but-one Rutland Arms, to the historic Dove, past The Old Ship and ending with a game of sozzled skittles at The Black Lion – a mere 10 minutes from our Hamlet Gardens properties.

The Eagle

215 Askew Rd, Shepherd’s Bush, W12 9AZ

Also a short walk from Hamlet Gardens – and backing onto Ravenscourt Park – is the truly spectacular beer garden of The Eagle. Sparkling with fairy lights in the evening and often filled with giant, brightly-coloured bean bags in the day, this is a beer garden that begs to be luxuriated in – with an onsite barbecue making this particular venue all the more tempting.

The Garden Bar

41 Bramley Rd, W10 6SZ
Near Latimer Road tube station, The Garden Bar’s beer garden is a vision in oak decking, leafy loveliness and tasteful lighting. Another outdoor area boasting a barbecue, The Garden Bar’s vibes are nevertheless more laidback hideaway than summer party, and it’s the perfect place to stop in with a few friends for a chilled, sunny afternoon drinking session.

The Prince

14 Lillie Road, West Brompton Crossing, SW6 1TT
The creme-de-la-creme of beer gardens, The Prince in West Kensington has its cake and eats it too, with a Wimbledon-style retractable roof. Part swanky bar, part glorified trellis, The Prince plays host to a variety of street food vendors eager to provide you with the perfect accompaniment to your chosen tipple. The self-proclaimed largest beer garden in London, we would nevertheless recommend booking ahead as this looks set to be an in-demand hotspot for summer 2018.
